New Downtown Zoning Proposed
The City of Yoakum Planning and Zoning Commission, City Council, and Yoakum EDC recently asked downtown business and building owners to weigh in on proposed changes to downtown zoning. The downtown zoning changes are intended to identify preferred uses for the future.
A Central Business District (CBD) Open House will be held at Yoakum City Hall on Tuesday November 27, 3pm-6pm and Wednesday November 28, 8am-10am. The proposed changes are the result of several months of effort by the seven member Planning & Zoning Commission, city staff and Yoakum EDC staff.
Two major revisions are proposed to current zoning:
(1) A new Central Business District zone will affect 6½ blocks of downtown.
(2) Some areas next to the CBD will change from Industrial to C-2 zoning. This affects approximately 7 blocks.
The CBD Open House will answer questions about the proposed zoning map and the proposed CBD Permitted Use chart. This list shows the types of new and expanding businesses that will be allowed in the CBD.
Next month, the Planning and Zoning Commission will reconvene, deliberate on feedback received, hold a public meeting and send their final recommendations to City Council for consideration.
