Last Chance: Harvey Grants for Historic Buildings

Slide1.PNG

The Texas Historical Commission (THC) will disburse $12.3 million in federal funds to address the impacts of Hurricane Harvey on significant historic properties.

  • Eligibility: Any “contributing” building in the Yoakum Commercial Historic District (National Register District) can apply for reimbursement of Harvey-related repairs already performed or needing repairs. Determine building eligibility on the historic district map on yoakumedc.com.
  • Outcomes: Funds can be used to achieve a better preservation outcome, such as the cost difference to fully restore a historic feature rather than simply return to pre-disaster condition.
  • Prevention: Projects must substantially mitigate the threat and include steps to mitigate future damage.
  • Competitive: Those applications scoring the most points will receive awards. While there is no guarantee of acceptance, the grant is 100% reimbursement.

As with all grants there is fine print.  Contact Chuck Dart at the Yoakum EDC (361) 293-6321 for details.   The deadline is near:  Friday, May 24.
