New Retail in Yoakum

A previously vacant Yoakum building was filled with activity this past Thursday evening when both Anytime Fitness and Ace Hardware opened their doors at 201 US HWY 77A South.

Taking a cue from small business marketer Jon Schallert, Yoakum Ace Hardware owner Hammad Choudhry plans to make his new store a destination for much of South Central Texas.  “The Yoakum and surrounding market has been underserved for years” said Choudhry, “Why? Because residents accepted travel to Victoria as a requirement to buy quality products.”  He aims to challenge that thinking by offering unique products such as fine jewelry, perfume, quality boots and hats, higher end kitchen appliances and Big Green Egg cookers. “We expect women will make up almost 50% of our customer mix”, he predicted.

Meanwhile, Yoakum Anytime Fitness owner Chip Bubela greeted new members to its Grand Opening party.  “We are offering something not available for miles – a 24 hour, non-stop exercise facility.”  Pre-opening enrollments for the 7,500 square foot facility indicate most new members are not currently engaged with other gyms.   “We’re tapping into a group anxious for us to arrive to make healthy happen” said Bubela.

Next month construction is expected to begin on O’Reilly Auto Parts.  The new building will be located at the southeast corner of US HWY 77A South and E Gonzales.
