After months of planning and construction, The Grand Theater will introduce an additional movie screen this week.   The owners of The Grand, which opened fall 2016 at 212 May Street, purchased half of the adjoining building with expansion in mind.  “The new screen, which we call the Blue Room, has 81 seats,” said Tammy Steinmann, co-owner of the Grand. “The smaller seating capacity is perfect for the second week of a two week film commitment. The second screen will allow us to offer a greater variety of movies throughout the year.”

The Yoakum EDC helped fund both the original renovation and the second screen.  “The board believed in 2016 that the theater would provide spark for the downtown area” said Gery Maneth, YEDC Board President.  “There is documented proof that this occurred.  We feel confident that the second screen will draw even more visitors and new businesses to our downtown.”
