Yoakum Wayfinding Design Chosen
A western saddle and the city “Y” logo together made the final cut for the new City of Yoakum wayfinding community marker design. Community markers will grace the top portion of fourteen (14) wayfinding signs designed to pique interest of highway passers-by. Multiple themes were considered including those representing leather, trains, and tomatoes. All but one sign will be positioned in TxDOT right-of-way (US Hwy 77A, State Hwy 111, and FM 3475). Signs will meet TxDOT specifications for reflectivity, color, construction materials, number of destinations, letter size, and physical location.
After a split vote, the City Council gave final decision to the wayfinding committee it created in January. The committee’s analysis included the project goals, most desired destinations, sign locations, budget and initial themes. A Request for Proposal (RFP) was publicized for the design, construction and placement of the wayfinding signs and the award went to Sign Crafters of Victoria. The $ 36,778.73 project cost will be shared by the Hotel Occupancy Tax Advisory Board, Yoakum EDC, and Yoakum Area Chamber of Commerce. Completion is expected by November 1.
